Over the last 17 months I have been honoured to undertake the role of Events Manager for Isle of Man Arts Council as part of its Island of Culture project (www.islandofculture.im).
The Island of Culture project really was very varied, involving working with various venues, artists, and musicians, and engaging the general public into attending events and gaining feedback.
Some of the highlights of the year included sourcing live lambs, donkeys and goats as actors for the Manx Passion Play, working with three of the Island's high schools as part of the School Play Festival, and coordinating a mobile orchestra truck visiting the Island. A full report on my time as Events Manager for Island of Culture can be seen at http://www.islandofculture.im/assets/files/Event-Managers-Overview.pdf.
The report gives an overview of my year in the role - there was so much more that couldn't be written as it probably wouldn't be believed! Patience and the ability to think on my feet were skills I thought I had before the year began - now I know that I have them. In addition to event planning skills I also found that eight full days of designing, manning and dismantling exhibition stands had improved my knowledge of the visual impact merchandising of information.
Thank you to Isle of Man Arts Council Members for believing in my skills during Island of Culture.
